The rod: Tend to be 6-15kg rods between 5'6" and 7'..using 6 to 15 kg line.
The reel: Penn have dominated the boat reel category and both spin reels and overhead reels are used. Spin reels are easier to use, while overhead reels are used by more advanced fishermen. The choice of reel really does come down to personal preference.
