GME is an Australian privately owned company that have been in operation for over 50 years in Australia and 20 years in New Zealand. GME is the most popular maker of PLBs and EPIRBs in New Zealand. We like them because they offer a 6 year warranty on their EPIRBs and a 7 year warranty on their PLBs. And the warranty is still valid if the beacon is activated!
Note: The key benefits of a GPS equipped EPIRB are faster detection by the Geostationary Satellites, typically less than 10 minutes anywhere in Australia or New Zealand and accuracy of the beacon’s position as it transmits the latitude and longitude coordinates as part of the emergency message. The search area is about a 100 meter radius.
