Built for power

Thinking of assembling a solid stickbait setup? The Okuma Azores XP 8000 Kotare Stickbait Spin Combo has you covered. This combo features the strong and stable Okuma Azores XP 8000 Spinning Reel paired with the fast and light Okuma Kotare Spinning Stickbait Rod. A match made in fishing heaven!

The Reel
The Okuma Azores XP 8000 Spinning Reel begins with proven power features including die-cast aluminium body, side plate and rotor, machine cut pinion gear and the Okuma Dual Force Drag system that utilises a traditional top drag stack in concert with an oversized Carbonite drag washer beneath the spool to increase high-end drag output as well as spool stability under load.

The Azores family of reels feature dual anti-reverse systems. The one-way clutch bearing is joined by a ratcheting anti-reverse that is moulded into the bottom of the rotor separating the Azores from its competition. The Mechanical Stabilisation System keeps all key components aligned. The 6mm stainless steel spool shaft is surrounded by an 8mm brass spool shaft sleeve that dramatically increases stability of the spool and drag system alignment when fished under the Azores maximum family drag output of up to 44lbs of pressure.

The Rod
The Okuma Kotare Spinning Stickbait Rod has been developed to provide the highest level of performance in the Okuma range. It's made from the highest modulus carbon coupled with the best components for a lighter, stronger and more responsive rod designed for Kiwi’s by Kiwi’s. Designed specifically for throwing stickbaits for NZ kingfish, the Okuma Kotare Spinning Stickbait Rod is exceptionally lightweight yet incredibly powerful. Featuring Winn Grips, 46T graphite blanks and top of the line ALPS and Fuji componentry this rod is super responsive and casts like a cannon, while the tip sections fold away to allow the angler to work any lure with ease. The UMR technology means you don’t sacrifice anything in terms of durability and the parabolic action means you can exert huge amounts of pressure on the fish while making it easier on the angler.

The Okuma Kotare Spinning Stickbait Rod is a truly outstanding stickbait rod for chasing mega kingfish around New Zealand’s coastline and offshore islands. The lightweight 46T carbon blank and ultra-comfortable Winn Grip foregrip makes casting and working medium to large sized stickbaits during long casting sessions a breeze. At 8’3” in length it's a great option for both boat and land-based stickbaiting. With its softer tip and powerful mid and butt sections it will swim stickbaits throughout its weight range with ease, and has a huge amount of stopping power for turning big fish out of gnarly territory. Perfectly matched to a reel 10000-18000 size range and will tackle big kings around the country and tough topwater opponents like GTs around the globe.
