The classic kiwi workhorse, properly reeled
The Penn Slammer 260 Shimano Aquatip Softbait Combo 7ft 4-8kg 2pc teams the Slammer 260 with the 7ft, 2-piece Shimano 25 Aquatip soft bait rod rated 4-8kg. The Aquatip's glass-integrated blank is tough enough for rocks and hard-fighting fish while still showing up subtle takes, and the Slammer's metal body and HT-100 drag back it up. A set-up that delivers real performance for the money.
The Reel
Built with PENN's exclusive Leveline wrap system, the PENN Slammer 260 Spinning Reel puts out superb performance and long casts with very little effort, and an oversized HT-100 drag washer gives it strong drag with flawless transitions. A special high-strength aluminium alloy houses the powerful gearing, and the main spool shaft is oversized and triple supported through the frame so alignment and balance hold up under the most intense pressure. Computer modelling fine-tuned the balance, and the result is one of the most durable, long-lasting spinning reels going.
The Rod
The Shimano 25 Aquatip Spinning Soft Bait Rod continues the legacy of a true kiwi favourite, renowned as Shimano's most reliable beginner series. Its fibreglass-integrated blank blends ultimate toughness for hard-fighting fish and rocky conditions with the sensitivity you need for improved bite detection. Now more durable than ever, it features forward-facing Zirconia guides for butter-smooth, tangle-free casting, a graphite reel seat that keeps the reel locked in no matter how hard you're pulling, and quality EVA grips for a secure hold from sunny afternoons to chilly mornings.
