Stay ahead of the bite
The Shimano Torium Type J 1500HGA Descent Type J Spiral OH Slow Jig Combo is your ultimate weapon for hunting trophy fish in New Zealand’s challenging conditions. This powerhouse combo pairs the rugged, high-performance Torium 1500HGA reel with the virtually indestructible Descent Type J rod, giving you the perfect balance of sensitivity for feeling every bite and raw lifting power to turn the heads of hard-fighting Kingfish.
The Reel
Level up your jigging game with lightning-fast hooksets and unstoppable cranking power. The Shimano Torium Type J 1500HGA Jigging Reel is engineered to give you the upper hand when you’re hunting trophy fish. Built with a rock-solid HAGANE Body, this reel eliminates flex so you can put every ounce of effort into your cranking power, while the S-Compact design shrinks the side plate by 25% for a comfortable, ergonomic palm-fit that keeps you in total control during a long session on the water. It's also kitted out with X-Protect technology to shield your gears from saltwater spray, ensuring your gear stays smooth and reliable for seasons to come.
The Shimano Torium Type J 1500HGA Jigging Reel introduces two smart upgrades for better control and faster hooksets. The Spool Lock feature prevents the spool from rotating, allowing you to apply torque to free snags without risking internal damage to the reel. With a turn of the handle, the auto-engage clutch instantly engages the reel from free spool for those subtle strikes on the drop. It's that easy—just hook and haul.
The Rod
The Shimano Descent Type J Spiral Overhead Slow Jig Rod is here to smash the fragile reputation of slow jigging rods. Its solid carbon blank construction offers unparalleled strength, durability and sheer lifting power. This allows you to work slow pitch jigs, octa jigs and even big soft plastic on heavy jig heads with confidence. Fitted with ultra-light, solid but sleek custom carbon reel seats and hard-wearing stainless guides, this rod gets you ready for some serious fishing.
