Fast retrieve and casting power for heavy topwater fishing
The Shimano Stella SW D 14000 XGD Ocea Plugger Full Throttle Heavy Topwater Spin Combo pairs the Stella SW D 14000 XGD spinning reel with the 8ft 8in Ocea Plugger Full Throttle Heavy rod and 300m of Shimano Ocea 8 Casting Braid SW Blue PE6. Designed for offshore saltwater topwater fishing, the combo combines a fast-retrieve reel with a two-piece rod rated for PE8 line and lures up to 160g.
The Reel
The Shimano Stella SW D 14000 XGD Spinning Reel combines HAGANE Gear with InfinityXross technology to distribute load more evenly across the gear teeth for improved durability. InfinityDrive supports winding power, while XX Tough Drag and HeatSink Drag technologies help maintain drag performance under heavy loads.
InfinityLoop produces an even line lay to support casting distance, while the Anti-Twist Fin helps manage line during winding. X-Protect and X-Shield help protect the reel against water intrusion, and SilentDrive supports smooth, quiet operation. With a 6.2:1 gear ratio and 134cm retrieve per crank, the reel suits anglers who need a fast retrieve when working topwater lures.
The Rod
The Shimano Ocea Plugger Full Throttle Heavy Topwater Spin Rod features Spiral X and Hi-Power X blank construction for strength, torsional rigidity and responsive casting performance. Shimano X Guide technology and Fuji SiC guides support line control, while the Screw Lock Joint helps secure the two-piece construction.
The CI4+ reel seat helps reduce weight while maintaining rigidity. At 8ft 8in, with a PE8 line rating and a maximum lure rating of 160g, it is suited to casting larger stickbaits and poppers offshore.
The Line
The Shimano Ocea 8 Casting Braid is a Japanese-made eight-strand PE braid designed for saltwater casting. Tough Cross construction creates a tighter, more stable weave, while Heat Sink coating helps disperse heat generated by friction. X-Filament technology improves pull strength and abrasion resistance. This combo includes 300m of solid blue PE6 braid rated at 102lb, with a diameter of 0.350mm.
