The Reel
The new Shimano SpeedMaster LD II 12 2-Speed Overhead Reel has all the capabilities of the Talica II 2-Speed reel, without the premium price tag. The Speed Master LD II looks and feels tough and is built as a powerhouse reel, capable of tackling many tasks. 2 Speed Gearing
This mechanism is designed so that gear changes are quick and easy, even when fighting a fish. The low gear ratio used for high-power retrieves is selected by pushing the button on the base of the handle. Return to the high-speed ratio by sliding the release button along the handle shank. By using two sets of gears, the drive and pinion gears are always engaged. There is no gear meshing during the shift.
Anti-Rust Bearings
A-RB are made of stainless steel that has been through the A-RB process. At least 10 times more corrosion resistant than standard stainless steel ball bearings. Easy maintenance no-shield design allows for easy flushing of debris and easy lubrication. Increased bearing speed-no shield design and lighter viscosity lubrication reduce friction and allow the bearing to spin faster and longer.
HAGANE Body
Hagane Body means this reel has a high rigidity and zero twist. The body stiffness and impact resistance virtually eliminates body flexing. The result transforms the angler's actions directly into cranking power. It's efficiency through strength.

Spiral X
Through its exclusive lightweight structure, Shimano's patented Spiral X construction enhances catching power for anglers. Spiral X construction consists of three layers: a middle layer of vertical fibres as well as inner and outer layers, both comprised of carbon tape that tightly winds the blank diagonally in opposite directions. By using this carbon tape in place of a conventional horizontal fibre sheet, Spiral X achieves enhanced compression rigidity and increased torsional rigidity without adding extra weight. This in turn facilitates instant power transmission for precise casting and fish fighting.
Hi-Power X
Hi-Power X construction uses diagonally-wrapped carbon tape to form an array of "X" shapes on the rod blank's outermost layer. The width of the tape, its winding angle and the part of the rod being wrapped are fine-tuned according to the target fish species. This manufacturing process allows Shimano to adjust these wraps during construction for precise actions, enhanced overall strength and added twist resistance. In short, Hi-Power X construction delivers sharp and crisp rod control for the angler.
CI4+
CI4 is a Shimano original material reinforced with carbon fibre that is lighter and has a higher strength than conventional resin material. CI4+ is an advanced version of the original CI4 material and is 2.5x more rigid than its predecessor. While improving lightness and rigidity, reel bodies, rotors and reel seats built with CI4+ are further reduced in size and weight.
